Interview with a Professional-
Lynne, IBCLC
What is an
LC?
An IBCLC or LC is a lactation
consultant- a breastfeeding expert.
On our birth education DVDs,
Leanne Cummins speaks about preparing to
breastfeed, and how to get started in your new
role. In this interview (6mins), Lynne
Hall discusses what a lactation consultant
offers, and talks about when you might call on
one.
To be qualified as an IBCLC
candidates must demonstrate that they already
have extensive education & clinical experience working with
breastfeeding mothers, and then pass an exam which
qualifies them for a period of 5 years.
Often lactation consultants have also been (or
still are) Australian Breastfeeding Association
counsellors, midwives, GP's, or mothercraft
nurses as well.
Lynne Hall runs
Better Beginnings whose mission is to
support a new parent's transition into
parenthood, focussing on supporting the family
to make choices and have options with
breastfeeding in Sydney.
Leanne has also written an
eBook called
Breastfeeding Basics to compliment the
information she presents in the DVDs.
The booklet answers many
breastfeeding questions Leanne has been asked as
a Lactation Consultant, and offers links for
further information.
