In pregnancy, we only require slightly more kilojoules (calories) than when we are not pregnant.
Our Challenge is - How can you eat even when you feel sick?
It is the quality of your diet that matters most.
Some important nutrients in pregnancy include:
- Water
- Fibre
- Folate – before and during pregnancy
- Iron
- Calcium
- Vitamin B6, C, D
- Magnesium
- Zinc
- Iodine
We find these in Healthy Whole Foods such as
- Fresh vegetables and fruit
- Meat and fish
- Wholegrains and cereals (breads/rice/pasta)
- Dairy foods
- Legumes and nuts
Foods to avoid:
- Alcohol
- Caffeine
- Listeria
- Artificial sweeteners
- Mercury and PCBs
