Clinical Assoc Prof MBBS FRACGP
Saroja Gunasekera is the Director
of Medical Education for 'Coast City Country
Training Ltd' in the
Illawarra/Shoalhaven/Southern Highlands
Region. She balances a passion for General
Practice Education with clinical work in
General Practice and being a mother to two
school aged children.
For Birthing Sense,
Saroja talks on DVD's 1 and 2, helping to
make sense of your antenatal and postnatal
visits (i.e. while pregnant, and after the birth
of your baby). She also helps us think
about some of the options available to you
when considering which health care provider
to choose when you become pregnant.
As a
GP Registrar, Saroja completed all of her
hospital and general practice training in
the Illawarra region. She has the
distinction of receiving the 1996 FRACGP
Monte Kent-Hughes Medal for highest National
Exam mark in FRACGP Examinations.
From
1997 to 1999 Saroja was a VMO for the
Illawarra Area Health Service in Medical
Education, and has also worked as a VMO
providing Medical services to IAH Sexual
Assault Unit and Community Mental Health
Services.
Her additional professional
interests include working as a Practice
Surveyor for AGPAL Pty Ltd Quality
Assurance, membership of the Illawarra
Division of General Practice and she is also
current President of the Illawarra Medical
Women’s Society and a member of the NSW
Medical Women’s Association. In 2004 she was
invited to join the University Of Wollongong
Graduate School Of Medicine Advisory
Committee and its Curriculum Committee as
well as continuing to be a member if the
Illawarra Division of General Practice
Public Relations and Education Committees.
In 2005 Saroja was elected to the Australian
National Medical Educators Network core
committee and still functions in this role
to the present day co-ordinating Medical
Educator Forums and often Chairing these
events.
