Susan - Doula

 

A Doula is a professional support person who supports you and your support people through pregnancy, labour, birth and early days post-natally.

 

The benefits of having a doula have been known in many cultures for many, many years.

 

Our own culture is just now coming to realise, through research, that having a doula with you will significantly reduce perinatal complications such as:

caesarean sections

augmentation

babies admitted to neonatal intensive care

Many of the women taking part in this research had an uncomplicated labour and birth that required no interventions, with a significantly shorter duration of labour suggesting that constant human support may be of great benefit to women during labour.
